WONDROUS WOODS
A mystical illuminated adventure that sensationally transformed the grounds of glorious Gosford House near Edinburgh, a location for the blockbusting TV series Outlander.
In 2023 the imposing neo-classical mansion at Longniddry, seat of the Earl of Wemyss and March, became the latest setting for the region’s hugely popular Wondrous Woods spectacular.
And the backdrop of the event’s breathtaking new home was sensational. A beautifully-lit 1.5km woodland trail – and the Wondrous Woods’ mascot Woody the Owl – captured the hearts of thousands of visitors who experienced this extravaganza of light and sound.
There were dancing fireflies, star tunnels, naughty gnomes, a flying fire phoenix and an ancient talking tree. Woody the Owl became a real-life character while there was also the chance for visitors to enjoy a meet-and-greet with live owls, pop into Woody’s Nest for a hot drink and a snack or browse the Woody Shop. At the end of the trail visitors were greeted by the stunning sight of Gosford House lit up in all its glory
As promotors of inclusivity, and thanks to sponsors Edinburgh investment managers Walter Scott & Partners, we also ran a dedicated evening for visitors with additional support needs, allowing guests, including those who experience sensory overload, to enjoy a relaxed evening with subdued noise and effects.
The event raised more than £2500 for charity partner Cash For Kids East Scotland.
‘I went to the opening night and thought WOW!. So much variety. The music and visual effects worked so well together and the atmosphere was amazing. The talking tree is fab 😊. The team have worked so hard putting this event together and it is definitely a show not to miss ’ –
